Vinyasa Classes

Throughout the class I demonstrate each posture and I also use dialogue providing you with:-

  • an indication of the alignment required for each posture

  • possible options you may wish to consider

As you settle into each posture, I will bring you back to your breath and direct you to your point of gaze or focus (Drishti)

Vinyasa yoga integrates the mind, body and breath. The structure of my class always starts with a guided breathing exercise using this as an opportunity to allow our mind and body to connect at the same place at the same time. The breathing technique is ujjayi breathing which is a unique form of breathing that is performed by inhaling and exhaling through the nose creating a soft 'ocean' sound in the back of the throat as you exhale. This breathing technique is encouraged throughout your whole practice and I will bring you back to your breath as you settle into each posture.

Following on from your breathing exercise we then move through a gentle warm up introducing you to some gentle stretches of the bigger muscles groups and mobility of some of the major joints, preparing your body for some of the postures (asanas) we will be performing throughout class.

Following on from the warm up we will move through our first Vinyasa which is a combination of 5-6 postures that are designed to flow together helping to gently increase your heart rate as you start to generate some heat in your body allowing you to go a little bit further in some of your postures if you so wish. Throughout your standing postures we tend to focus on one side of the body to complete a vinyasa before turning our attention to the other side of the body to balance us out.

Following on from our standing postures we will then move onto the floor for some seated and lying down postures (asanas) before moving into our savasana or a guided meditation for total relaxation and release.
